Report from Bihar disaster area

A report by a General Coordinator of HM in India of his visit to the disaster area in Bihar

Our way of working in disaster areas is based on organising local volunteers and making a full assessment of the situation before acting. We collect lists of people who are ready to contribute a set amount of money for the needs of the emergency aid. Then our delegates go to the area and research what is the real urgent need, and call those who are ready to contribute financially. With green light from financial contributers, our volunteers on site buy what is necessary and distribute it with care. Afterwards they collect the money from contributors. (If necessary, they ask the contributors to send the money to them while they are in the site.)

In case of Bihar we are well prepared as we have experienced local HM coordinators.

During July-September, JU has visited Finland and India.

In Finland, the promotion team of the World March for Peace and Nonviolence was formed with the participation of several peace organisations and activists.

In India, more youth clubs were formed in Mumbai and accreditation was obtained from Mumbai University in order to continue workshops and social service campaigns also as part of college curriculum. In Tamil Nadu first contacts were made for introducing the humanist youth clubs also there. The synergy and cooperation with other councils is advancing well and is significantly helping the development of the movement.
